Talks between Turkish and Iranian Foreign Ministers Held in Saudi Arabia

Turkish and Iranian Foreign Ministers Hakan Fidan and Abbas Araghchi met on the sidelines of the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the Turkish Foreign Ministry and RIA Novosti reported .

This week, the Turkish Foreign Ministry invited the Iranian embassy’s chargé d’affaires amid “increased criticism” of Ankara . During the audience, the diplomats discussed bilateral relations, Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman Oncü Keçeli reported .

On March 7, an extraordinary meeting of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers was held in Jeddah with the participation of Fidan, and the issue of Syria’s membership in the OIC was included in its agenda at the initiative of the Turkish side. After 13 years, Syria sat down at this negotiating table.

Fidan also met with Arakchi, the Turkish Foreign Ministry reported, but did not provide any details of the talks.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation is an international organization of Islamic countries. It was founded on September 25, 1969, at a conference of heads of Muslim states in Rabat , Morocco .
